Biography

George Katrougalos, minister of Labor, Social Security and Social Solidarity, is Professor of Public Law at Democritus University of Thrace. He was Alternate Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction (January 2015-July 2015), a Member of the European Parliament (May 2014- January 2015). He has been visiting scholar at the Law School of New York University (2007 and 2012), as Emil Noel Fellow and Senior Emile Noel Fellow, respectively, and at Roskilde University (1994-1995), as a fellow of the Danish Academy of Science. He has been legal advisor to the Minister of Education (1994, 1997-2002), to the Greek Mission at the United Nations (2000-2003) and member of the committee of experts advising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the drafting of the European Constitution. He has also been legal advisor to the Albanian Parliament on the drafting of the Albanian Constitution (1998-1999) and constitutional expert in many projects in Uzbekistan, Armenia, Syria and the Balkans. He has been mediator and arbitrator of the Greek organization of Mediation and Arbitration and first President and, CEO of the «Vocational Training S.A» (1998-2011), a public organisation of the Greek Ministry of Labour and Social Security (2002-2003), member of the Management Board of the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), the EU agency specialized in vocational training policy (2003) and executive Vice-President of the Center for Educational Research (2010-2011). He has published extensively in Greek, American and European legal reviews.
