Biography

Prof. Pericles A. Mitkas received his Diploma of Electrical Engineering from AUTh (1985), an MSc and a PhD in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University, USA, in 1987 and 1990, respectively. Between 1990 and 2000 he was a faculty member with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University in USA and since 2000 he is a member of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of AUTh.

His research interests include databases and knowledge bases, data mining, software agents, enviromatics and bioinformatics. Prof. Mitkas is a senior member of the IEEE Computer Society and has served as Project Coordinator in several US and EU research projects. His work has been published in over 300 papers, book chapters, and conference publications. He is the co-author of a book on “Agent Intelligence through Data Mining”.

Currently, Prof. Mitkas is the elected Rector of AUTh 2014-2019. He is the President of the Black Sea Universities Network (2018-2020) and the Balkan Universities Association (2018).

He is married to Sophia Mardiri, a lawyer, and has two children, Alexander-Akilas and Danae-Zoe, both students.
